Vijayawada, the decided capital Andhra Pradesh will be first, out of three, city in the state to get the Metro. Andhra Pradesh appointed Sreedharan as advisor for rail based Mass Rapid Transit System.
Sreedharan along with the officials reviewed the natural and constructed features of the city and conducted a press conference. In the press conference, he said the firs phase of the Metro rail project will be of stretch 25 kilometers.
While speaking to the press, Sreedharan said, the Metro will be taken in two corridors. One from Bandar road and the other from Eluru road. On Bandar road corridor, the railing will be done from VVR Siddhartha Engineering College to Bus Station which covers a of 13 km. On Eluru Road, the project starts at Bus Stand and ends at Ramavarappadu passing through the Railway station.
Sreedharan said, while speaking on the details of the project, there will be a station for evert kilometer and a Metro will depot will be constructed outside of the city for the train rest and maintenance activities. Andhra Pradesh is targetting to complete this 8000 crore in four years of span.
Detailed Project Report (DPR) covering feasibility, cost and engineering details will be completed and submitted to the government by January. Once DPR gets approved, tenders for civil works, procurement of signaling system and others will be called in a span of six months.
