A school bus collided with a train at an unmanned railway crossing in Medak district of Telangana this morning. Atleast twenty children along with the bus driver killed and over a dozen were injured. The injured were moved to nearby hospitals in Kompally, Tupran. The death toll could rise.
The bus was carrying 40 children of the Kakatiya School. At around 8:30 AM, at Masayapeta, the driver let the bus move onto the train tracks. The Nanded passenger train which came at the same time rammed into the bus and dragged it for over two hundred meters.
The accident site presents gory scenes with mangled remains of the bus and the bodies of the children, school bags & water bottles lay scattered around the tracks.
The accident has sparked anger among local people, who say they have been asking for gates to secure the railway crossing. About 15,000 people are killed each year while crossing the tracks on India.
Chief Minister Chandrasekhara Rao expressed his shock over the incident and rushed his ministers to the spot who are now participating in the operations in the spot. Chandrasekhara Rao has also ordered an inquiry.
